The Pass pop up

The Pass Podcast has announced it's first ever Pop up event in Leeds. In March last year Paul Newbegin started a mission to share the stories of some of the nation’s best chefs. Having now worked with Andrew Pern, Tommy Banks and James Mackenzie he has made a name for his podcast but is now looking to explore new frontiers.

He has now announced plans to bring Michelin recommended and Three AA rosette winning Chef Ernst Van Zyl to Dock 29 for a night of fine dining at the affordable price of 5 courses for £45pp.

Originally from South Africa, Ernst worked in some of the world’s best restaurants before settling in the UK and opening the Hanging Gate which went on to be featured in the Michelin Guide and gain 3 AA Rosettes. Known for his creative cooking with Asian and Scandinavian influences Ernst's cooking which is full of style and flavour.

Having never cooked in Leeds before, Ernst is keen to impress and plans to treat diners to a menu consisting of:

  • Jersey Royals, chorizo, egg yolk, spring onion
  • Black mussels, button mushroom, lapsan souchong, dill
  • Beetroot, Nori, black bean, radish
  • Jacobs ladder, fermented broccoli, shallot, apple
  • Lamb, chicory, carrot
  • Rhubarb & custard

Also on board for the evening are the Harewood Food and drink project who produce incredible beers and gins using ingredients foraged from the Harewood estate. They will be providing a Gin cocktail for all diners for free and there will be some beers to try too!
